This is a PESOS from Reddit addressing the question: How would you solve the problem of bureaucracy in a more “government controlled” economy/society?:
I view bureaucracy as more of a feature than a bug. I appreciate being able, at least in theory, to know what the rules are, and that the de facto rules are in fact the de jure rules. A good bureaucracy does what it says on the tin.
I am absolutely a fish out of water in any environment which is in fact governed by unwritten social rules. I also appreciate that this preference isn’t shared by everyone. Just as social and unwritten rules are my weak suit, understanding the implications of clearly stated rules is a strong suit for me, but not for everybody. Even I don’t thrive in an overly-complex bureaucracy. I think bureaucracies should always be pruning their rule books, and simplifying and streamlining rule sets whenever possible.
As for the future of economy/society, I would hope that in the future there will be both bureaucratic and non-bureaucratic venues for earning a lifelihood, obtaining products and services, and self-governing community living. I think either of those going extinct would leave large chunks of the population at a disadvantage, if not in danger.
